Objective

The goal of this week is to define and explain all the essential steps within a proactive health care policy for risk groups from a behavioral science point of view. The week will provide an overview of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention strategies. Each day, methods for screening, treatment and prevention will be discussed, illustrated with case examples. Furthermore, each day will focus on a different risk group with high potential for population health management. There will also be large attention to the practical execution of the introduced methods in clinical practice, with specific focus on creating awareness (among patients, health care professionals and policy makers) and increasing intention and motivation for behavior change. Each afternoon, this will be brought into practice during the ‘psychology lab’ assignments.

This second summer course is an in-depth addition to the knowledge acquired during the first PHM Summer and Winter course, but the course is also very valuable for those who are new to the subject of PHM. The course is open to previous summer course students as well as to new applicants.

The programme has a solid structure consisting of various elements. Each day is organised around one aspect of health care governance. The day starts with a theoretical morning (theoretical and interactive lectures). After lunch students take part in the population and governance lab. A three hour practical working group (5/6 students) around a week assignment. Each day ends with a capita selecta, in which the stake holders reflect on their own position and interests.
